  1. Social media is constantly evolving, and it is a major part of life that helps define us as people. Social media is becoming a daily part of life to make connections, keep in touch, and provide entertainment. Therefore, social media is creeping its way into the healthcare field. This can be good and bad, depending how professional our health care providers handle social media. Social media can cause problems with your professional career some healthcare professionals may not know or be educated on how to interact with patients on the internet. Providers must maintain appropriate boundaries of the patient-provider relationship to be professional just as they would in any other context or situation. We can prevent inappropriate interactions by educating professionals on how they should interact with patients online. An important part of being professional is protecting patient privacy. If our professionals are careless with social media or simply not educated on how to use it properly, patient information could accidently get leaked. This is highly unprofessional, but once again, we can prevent this by teaching professionals the right way to use social media with caution. Social media content can never be completely deleted. The innovative technology allows screenshots, downloads, and cache storage. One mistake could ruin a professional reputation because of social media. Also, information is constantly changing with new discoveries. What a professional posts to the public one year may not be true the year after. Professionals should take ownership of their views and responsibility for what they post. One last problem that I will discuss is the problem of separation of personal and professional identity on social media. One can never truly step out of their professional image, even in their personal life. Separate accounts will not guarantee privacy or separation of personal and professional images. This is also a problem for people trying to get a professional job. If they abuse social media in a negative way, employers will see that these people do not handle themselves professionally. To solve this, we should post only what we think is appropriate. We need to be aware that anyone can see social media, and we should only post what we feel is okay from a professional standpoint.

  2. Social media in this generation has taken over everyone's lives and is used and accessed by everyone. So in the professional aspect of the healthcare profession social media is still used to contact and stay touch with patients. There is a line that cannot be crossed and it is the duty of the healthcare professional to remain professional just like any other situation with a patient. The providers of care need to maintain safe boundaries with patients and this is done through teaching appropriate social media etiquette at all times. The patient- doctor confidentiality should remain such a private and undisclosed information. If any information could be leaked on social media, and once on social media such information is never truly deleted forever, it is always on the internet. Consumers don't use telephone books anymore in the yellow pages to look at credible care physician's they are using online directories, facebook pages, yelp etc. to find information readily available on their smartphones.Failure to comply to "Term and Agreement" legal binding on most social media sites can be followed by removal of content, suspension of account, and in extreme cases prosecution. Professionalism follows you onto your personal social media as well and anything you post will be seen by employers and patients. If you have a professional social media page make sure the information is updated to the most recent accurate information ,if not you could be at fault. Regularly search check yourself on popular searcher engines and see if what appears on screen is professional and acceptable for friends, family, employers and patients would look at and see a positive social media print online. Social media will continue to evolve and it is key to stay up to date and maybe see a social media educator on the newest technology changes to stay professional on all social media platforms you own.

  3. Social media over the years has become widely used in many different settings. One newly developed setting that social media has become prominent in is in health care. With limitations and restrictions, providers are using social media to interest patients, spread information and to give quick information. But with the power of social media on the rise, it is causing some havoc for the providers themselves. Providers are having to become more censored on the internet to maintain a professional look. b Remaining professional online is something that seems to be getting harder as time goes on because social media is has become less and less private. As a professional, you must learn to use all your privacy settings and to still be careful when posting.
In my future career, I can see social media becoming a problem because of what I’m tagged in. My friends like to tag me in some posts that may be vulgar for entertainment. Around the time I plan to apply for my future career, I’m unsure if my employer will look at all my old tags from this time, but if they do, I hope it is not a reason to not place me in that position. Also, when that time does arrive, I hope my friends are also a little more cautious about what the post or tag someone in on any social media.
I can prevent all of problems that come with having social media by not having any accounts. It may sound very impossible and it may be but if it helps me secure my career than it is the risk I will take. I could also explore my privacy setting like it said in the passage. Still, that does not ensure privacy and I would still have to be cautious.

  4. Social media has evolved over the years and has been used in a lot of different ways. Social media has become a big thing in the healthcare profession. It helps us keep in touch with the patients and keep all of their medical files sacred. This can be a problem because the if the health care provider could misuse the social media. Another problem this could have would be if one person makes a one mistake it could ruin their whole career and the way people view them. The providers must use appropriate boundaries of the patient-provider relationship to be professional. Some ways we can prevent these situations from arising are we could post things we know are appropriate and make sure everyone that will have the social media accounts knows that everyone can see what they post so they need to be careful about that.

  5. Social media is an evolving resource for healthcare professionals. Nowadays everybody is using it and it can provide a multitude of services. For possible patients, it is very helpful because many people tend to look at online reviews from others, check out the professional’s website, and occasionally view more personal social media accounts like Facebook before deciding on a healthcare provider. On the side of the provider, social media and internet usage can be a great starting point for continued education and being able to share high quality information with others. Many ethical and legal issues can arise from the usage of social media. It is important for a healthcare provider to practice digital professionalism and uphold their conduct standards. This includes maintaining appropriate physician-patient boundaries, sharing honest and good health information, and taking ownership of what you post. Reputation is another key item in good social media usage. One little post can ruin a practice that took a lifetime to build. Knowing and following all policies very carefully is important in order to maintain professionalism on social media, even if it is a personal account.

  6. Since the turn if the millennium the use of social media has become a part of everyday life for most people. A clear majority of adults today, are internet users, and own a smartphone, and use one of the many forms of social media platforms. One of the fields that social media is creeping into is the health care field. When it comes to the use of social media in the health care field, professionals are obligated to adhere to professions standards of ethical and professional conduct. However, there are still many potential problems to using social media in the health care profession. One of the most important thing is doctor, patient confidentiality. Health care providers must keep information about their patients undisclosed, and not share it with anyone unless given permission by the patient. Therefore, it is important for health care professionals to always practice proper social media etiquette. Another important thing for not just health care providers but for everyone is that anyone can see what you post on social media. So always think about what your posting, so that if your employer, or a future patient finds your page they can see that you are portray yourself in a professional manner. When it comes to preventing any issues on social media, the easiest thing to do is watch what you are posting and make sure it is appropriate. Don’t post stupid pictures, or anything future employers may find offensive. Another alternative is to not have any social media at all. I myself am not active on most social media platforms. However not having social media can also be a disadvantage, because when used properly it is a good way to promote yourself.

  7. In todays society people are using social media more and more so being a health care professional does not exclude you from this statistic. As a healthcare provider you have to be aware of what you say and do on social media platforms seeing that anymore people are using yellow pages and phone books less and less and looking to their Facebook pages and online directories more than ever to find health care providers. Seeing that there has been this massive change in consumer activity to being predominantly online, the American medical association has set standards and guidelines for professional practice while on social media basically addressing standards and boundaries that were already in place in practice but addressing them on online platforms such as how you would interact with clients and your clients medical information. However, the way you conduct yourself outside of the workplace now extends to how you conduct yourself online. As someone trying to enter the field as a professional you want to act professional at all times even online because what you do and say online will always be there. You can say something and realize it was inappropriate or unprofessional and delete it but once its online it will always be there in on place or another. You may share views and ideas that somewhere down the road may be found to be found to be “bad information” and you will be expected to own up to your ideas and back your findings or come off as unprofessional so maintaining your integrity online is a must. Social media is an ever-changing platform for information sharing so staying on top of your actions online is necessary to maintaining your career and reputation as a healthcare provider.

  8. Social Media causes many problems when it comes to having a professional career. When it comes to being interviewed or in the process of obtaining a professional career you will be examined closely, from background checks to having someone look over all of your social media accounts. The company that is hiring you usually has a group of people that basically stalk your profile to make sure they are hiring a person who is responsible and doesn’t go out partying every weekend and is very irresponsible. You are able to prevent some of those situations by only posting things that are appropriate and not posting posts that show you doing things that most people view as irresponsible. For the best, try and keep your post to the minimum when it comes to inappropriate things.

  9. With the use of the internet/social media becoming evermore prevalent, it's becoming increasingly harder for companies, practices, businesses, etc. to not adopt the use of social media. Various practices and businesses have found profound success in implementing the use of social media. While there are many positive outcomes with this implementation there are still man risk factors involved. The risk of breeching patient provider confidentiality exponentially increases with the use of social media. With the increased risk of inappropriate behavior between patients and their providers, many organizations and administrations have adopted guidelines for their members. Following these guidelines is one of the best ways that a person can avoid any misconduct online. Even if the social media account, website, etc. is personal the owner of the account should take responsibility of the content that is made public. While there are many ways to avoid misconduct online the best way to avoid it is to not have any social media presence at all. With the many positive consequences that social media brings there are and will continue to be many conflicts. It is the duty of the provider to be smart about what is being posted under their reputation and take ownership of it. Education about social media and how to properly use it is the next step in this "technological revolution".

  10. In the article I discovered the ways that social media can cause problems with your professional career just like it can in your regular day life. For example, if you are not carefully you can ruin the reputation of your business and once that happens the word can easily be spread throughout the internet and lead t many bad things, such as receiving negative reviews. Also, another problem that can occur is not following the terms of agreement that are often just bypassed, but if not followed can lead to removal in content or even prosecution. With there actually being bad things that can come from if not being cautious with using social media. Some ways that you can prevent these problems from occurring is by following the standards of conduct in the use of social media, which is an outline for things to keep your social media more uniform so it’s not likely to deemed unprofessional. Other solutions that are beneficial consists of knowing the policies of your employer, taking ownership of your views and responsibility for what you post, and control information sharing.

  11. Social media is ever changing. However Physical therapists or any medical professions can use this to give the public a better understanding about health and wellness. Although there can be many disadvantages as well. For example you really need to control the information you are sharing to create boundaries between personal and professional lives. You also need to keep your identity safe. Posting online puts you at risk for identity theft. You also need to watch what you are posting online because if a company is trying to hire you they will check all your social media.

  12. Social media has been through many revolutions over the years, always in a constant stream of progression. What used to just be email and maybe instant messenger is now big companies with websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram, that store your inputted data to share with your friends. In this day and age, your social media presence says a lot about you, as social media itself has become an ever-increasingly large presence in our day-to-day lives. This is both beneficial and harmful from a healthcare perspective. While it allows many healthcare providers to stay in contact with their patients, it also allows for greater error and gives way to new ethical dilemmas. Patient privacy is easier breached when using social media than when not. Not to mention, what you put out on the internet, you can never get back. Nothing can ever be deleted from social media, not really. It can also cause problems for anyone looking for employment, or applying to schools or for scholarships. With several swift clicks, any one person can see your address, phone number, email, location, favorite foods, pictures of everything you’ve been doing, and all your likes and dislikes. Employers, schools, and others will use that to their advantage, as a tool to help assess whether or not you are representable. If you have a stipulation in your parole sentence that says no drinking, and you post a picture of yourself with a beer in your hand, your parole officer will see it, and will be able to revoke your parole. The best way to avoid trouble with social media, is to not post anything that could possibly get you in trouble. Don’t swear in posts, don’t post pictures with nudity, alcohol, drugs or cigarettes, don’t talk bad about people online or get into fights, and try to stay away from controversial topics such as politics and religion. If all else fails, before you hit post, walk away for an hour, come back, reread your post, and ask “is this appropriate to put out for others to see?”. If the answer is no, then don’t do it!

  13. The article talked about how social media has impacted society, especially in medical professions. It talked a lot of how social media can be beneficial for these professions, in that it creates an easier method of contact for patients, but also about how everyone is responsible for what they decide to post on social media. Unfortunately, with the accessibility of the internet and social media in general, there is no true separation from professional and personal life, as what you post personally can be dragged into your professional life and may affect your career. The only way to fully avoid this type of negative situation is just to monitor what you post on social media or just don't post at all. If your particular job has certain rules and policies for social media and you have a post that obvious defies these policies, then you put your self at risk. A common myth is that deleting posts will erase the post entirely, however, there are databases that keep everything that has ever been posted on the internet. Observe what you are about to post on the internet and decipher if it might be offensive or not.

  14. Throughout the years social media and digital technology has change drastically. In this generation today many consumers either have a smart phone or some kind of technology system that allows them to use internet. This can cause great problems within the professional field. Being on the internet one has to be aware of what he or she says on social media because any consumer can look that their profile. Also if a certain field doesn't use a internet source, consumer usually won't be interested in that business. It's easier for someone to get a notification on their phone as a reminder then getting a paper that has the person's information for their next appointment. Also another thing that should always be important to the professionals is keeping your identity safe so no one else can steal it. A way that a employer can avoid these problems is protecting their posts by being private and just being smart about what they post.

  16. Social media is an advancing asset for healthcare experts. These days everyone is utilizing it and it can give a large number of administrations. For conceivable patients, it is exceptionally accommodating since numerous individuals tend to see at online surveys from others, check out the professional’s site. While there are numerous ways to maintain a strategic distance from wrongdoing online perfect way the most perfect to way dodge it is to not have any social media nearness at all. With the numerous positive results that social media brings there are and will proceed to be numerous clashes. Social media will proceed to advance and it is key to remain up to date and perhaps see a social media teacher on the most up to date innovation changes to remain proficient on all social media stages you claim.

  17. Today social media has become a part of our everyday life it's involved in everything we do in some way for the most part. It's apart of our social life, it can be apart of your professional life, it's within your family (especially with facebook), it is even apart of our school lives where many different teams or organizations have their own social medias at schools, and now it's even with in the health care field. Social media in a day an age where more and more inappropriate behavior happens and is put out there for everyone to see and anyone can see, people in a professional field or even want to go into one have to be very careful on what they put out there. If people are not careful with their social media, a lot of company's and firms will not hire someone based on their social media, people can lose business and costumers because their private social media is inappropriate and not professional so they lose their trust of their costumers, also with that people can lose jobs over their social media especially if their found talking bad about the place where they work. So with the many risks of social media it is not bad as long as it is used with caution and are always thinking about how this affects you and the company you work for. If social media is used right in any field it can increase business and make a place seem more professional and be held at a high standard because of how professional their social media is. So if a business is going to use social media they must make sure that it is constantly being monitored and everything is up to date on it.

  18. The article "Professionalism in the digital age" talks about how social media has created a platform for people to assess different healthcare groups based off their social media accounts. Many different groups are able to be reviewed on the same bases most people get viewed through social media. This article doesn't fully go into all the dramatic drama that most people who have social media go through. This article explains how healthcare providers have gotten more involved in social media and be able to be more available to people. Most importantly the article goes into detail about how the social media for the healthcare facilities must follow specific guidelines. Of course, there are always pros and cons to anything on the internet. In general, you have to worry about bias on sites because most facilities are always going to say they are the best when maybe they aren't. These platforms can really be valuable though when trying to decide if a professional or facility is good quality. Most health care providers have started to get involved with social media due to the idea that most people rely on internet resources for information and making health care decisions. The biggest points that this article makes is that there should always be factual information put out. Boundaries should be made between patients and physicians or medical professionals. Finally, that there is positive outcome and appropriate content is shared.
